How Faith Fuels My Creative Process

By Ellen, Artist & Creator at White Bird Design Co.

As an artist, my hands may be the ones holding the brush—but my heart knows the true Creator behind every color, every bloom, and every finished piece is God Himself.

People often ask where I find inspiration, and my honest answer is: it starts in prayer and in the Word. Before I ever choose a color palette or sketch out a floral composition, I spend time asking the Lord to lead my work. I ask that each painting would reflect His beauty, bring hope, and speak to someone’s heart in a way only He can orchestrate.

There’s a rhythm to creating that feels deeply spiritual to me. When I’m painting, I enter into a quiet space where distractions fade and my focus narrows. It’s in that stillness that I hear God most clearly. He often brings verses to mind—or a word to be the message of a piece.

One of the verses that continually speaks to my creative calling is Exodus 31:3 (NKJV):

“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”

I believe God gives each of us gifts to steward—not just for ourselves, but to glorify Him and serve others. That’s what I hope my art does: points to truth, brings beauty into homes, and reminds others that God is near, even in the ordinary.

Whether I’m painting a large canvas, a hand-lettered journal, or a tiny bookmark, I want it to carry the fingerprints of grace. My prayer is that when someone hangs a piece in their home or gives it as a gift, it brings more than just visual joy—it brings peace, encouragement, and a sense of being seen and loved by the One who created them.

Thank you for supporting my work and this mission. Your encouragement and your stories remind me that art has the power to connect us not only to one another—but to the heart of God.

Many Blessings,— Ellen 🤍
